One crafty day in Los Angeles, Jesselyn was working on a centerpiece for her living room. She was pinning keychains on a mannequin to showcase where she’s traveled. While sifting through her treasured keychain collection, she found a pink elephant from Thailand, a furry donkey from Greece, and a hairy troll from Norway. She was amazed how something so small can remind her of so many unique experiences. The only thing missing from her collection was a reminder of her native Los Angeles.
Jesselyn has traveled to over 30 countries in Asia, Europe, Australia, Middle East, and the Caribbean. She collects keychains everywhere she goes. Jesselyn dreams about going on many vacations. However, like many of us, she gets caught up in the day-to-day hustle of making dreams happen, and rarely finds the time to stop and appreciate what’s right in front of her, her own home city.
Jesselyn created L.A. Gnome in March 2013 to illustrate her adventures in Los Angeles. She also designed her own pocket-sized travel gnome, appropriately named “Ellay” to bring along on her L.A. trips. Ellay gets his picture taken while he travels around town.
L.A. Gnome is meant to inspire travel in L.A. that is unique and non-mainstream coming from someone who grew up in L.A. Most tourists are familiar with popular Southern California destinations like Disneyland, Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Universal Studios. Jesselyn’s mission is to discover other gems in Los Angeles and share them with the world. Even if you don’t find your way to L.A., Jesselyn hopes that something you encounter on L.A. Gnome will inspire the adventurer in you to travel, explore, and have some fun.
